Doggystyle copy paste text art2/8/2024 These are some of the smartest and hardest working dogs out there and kids will enjoy learning about them. Some breeds are better suited for certain jobs, but some dogs can be trained for a variety of tasks. I think kids will be surprised that each of these four hardworking dogs is a different breed. I found each of these dog stories to be so important. Willow uses her friendly demeanor to bring joy and smiles to those who are sick or hurting. Tiger works really hard with his human partner to keep their city safe using his nose and sometimes his body to protect his partner. Stella’s sniffing skills are also very important to find people who are missing, like a hiker that she found deep in the woods. The dogs have also had to go through very specific training for their jobs which is also explained.ĭolley’s expert sniffing skills can detect a very tiny droplet of fire-starting liquid. Then each book goes into what a workday is like for Dolley, Stella, Tiger, or Willow. They have also, including my five-year-old (who doesn't read well enough to read these books, but has had all of them read to her by older siblings), lectured me that, "Smoke alarms need to be replaced every ten years." Then, while eyeing one of our smoke alarms, went on to ask, "Have you gotten a new one of these within the last ten years?"Įach of the books in this series starts with meeting the dog and what they like to do for fun, who their family is, the type of dog they are, and then shares the specific job the dog has. But nope, one of the tips reads, "replace your smoke alarms every 10 years."Īh ha! So THAT'S why each of my four kids, all throughout the past month, has asked my husband and me when we last replaced our smoke alarms. How did I know that? Well, on the last few pages there's a section called, "Dolley's Safety Tips." Now, I have always assumed my kids skip these types of sections because they don't usually look as interesting as the actual story. And, after I read it, I realized my kids had gone over every single page. "Dolley the Fire Dog," is a book four of my kids got to before I did. A question and answer section along with safety tips round out this interesting book. Their life outside of work is briefly highlighted as well. Dolley in training and in the field are shown along with her human partner. I found this one particularly interesting because I didn't know that dogs were used for that. But as with so many National Geographic books the real winner here are the photographs which show so beautifully the animals and their partners.ĭolley, The Fire Dog takes the reader behind the scenes with a fire investigator and his dog as they search for signs of fire starting liquid and the cause of a fire. The books have enough details to provide background on each job and each specific dog and human partner. The photographs match up beautifully with the text and clearly show what the text explains. Each book is written in large, easy to read, simplified text perfect for young listeners or readers. Each of the books in the Doggy Defenders series focuses on the working life of a real dog and his/her real-life partner.
